Cultural Futurist Salon VI - Flash Fiction Frenzy
It's happening tomorrow. Will you join in the frenzy?
Hello! If you’ve been a member of The Cultural Futurist for a while, this type of email is nothing new to you. If you’ve joined recently, welcome to the divine madness. Let’s go for a rundown. The Cultural Futurist isn’t some random Substack. It’s a creative community in which I host salons and book clubs for my favorite members. I also write here, and you’re invited check out a popular piece of my writing if you feel so inclined.
During my last salon, we shared our poetry as we watched our friends recite poetry that was vital, experimental, beautiful, and invigorating. It lived up to the name Poetry Portal, as we all found ourselves transported into both a new dimension and universe at once. Have we ever returned from it? Probably not.
This time, we’re going Full Flash Fiction.
Cultural Futurist Salon VI - Flash Fiction Frenzy will be similar to the Poetry Portal salon. We’ve got several returning performers on our lineup who will be transforming from poet laureates into flash fiction narrators. We’ve also got some new hardcore talent we’re welcoming onto the frontier. It’s going to be a frenzy of creativity, and you’re invited to join us for the whirlwind.
This is an online event. We’ll hang out and read our flash fiction, everyone on the lineup getting a 5-10 minute slot. Our narration extraordinaires will hold the floor for the first half of the event. After they’ve commanded the stage, we will enter Total Frenzy Zone. Anyone who wants to read their flash fiction will be given the stage until it’s time for dinner.
While I can’t 100% promise everyone will get a chance to read who isn’t on the lineup, nobody was turned away for the poetry salon, so chances are 99% you’ll be good to go if you’ve got some flash fiction you’d like to recite for us. You’re also welcome to attend if you don’t want to recite anything. Your presence is enough.
There are no limits as to what you can read, (only time limits) and you’ll have the choice to keep your camera off if you have any privacy concerns. No Cultural Futurist Salons are ever recorded. This is a members-only event, and what happens at my salons stays at my salons. I also have a piece I’ll be sharing myself, which is completely unhinged and psychotic. Flash fiction has been known to transform the limits of brevity into a playground for wild experimentation.
Get ready for Flash Fiction Frenzy. It’s bold and crazy, just like the best writers of our time.
The Frenzy starts on November 23rd at 4 PM EST. It will go on until 6 PM EST. This is literally tomorrow, so put it on your calendar before it’s too late. You can attend by becoming a paid member of The Cultural Futurist, which will cause the Zoom link to be displayed for you under the cut. Membership also grants you entrance to all my future salons and book clubs while giving you access to my writing archives and private chat.
I’ve decided to offer a 20% lifetime discount to anyone who becomes an annual member of The Cultural Futurist until one day after the event. I have my orange check now and don’t technically need to do this, but I want as many people to enjoy my writing, salons, and book clubs as possible as I grow my community. Also, my economic views are beyond Left and Right.
So! Join the frontlines and grab a front-row seat to the creative vanguard, read your flash fiction to the craziest audience you’ll ever encounter, or simply stop by to have a great time and meet like-minded people. Become a member of The Cultural Futurist and join the frenzy before the whirlwind has stopped.
Don’t ask me if I’ll have any live recordings because the answer will always be the same: no. We’ve already been over this. Make the function or miss the regime launch. You are free to show up late as long as you are intellectually appealing and don’t mind potentially missing your turn to read. The Zoom link is below and for paid subscribers old and new:
