Welcome! If you’ve been a member of The Cultural Futurist for a while, you’re probably used to getting emails like this. If you’ve joined recently, welcome to the divine madness. The Cultural Futurist isn’t some random Substack blog. It’s a living breathing community in which I host salons and book clubs for my most cherished members. I also blog here, and you should check out my most recent piece of writing if you feel so inclined. During my last salon we experienced everything from schizophrenic book readings to Classical Futurist music to sensual performance art to (anti)algorithmic poetry. This time, we’re going full poetry.

Cultural Futurist Salon V - Poetry Portal will be similar to the Bohemian Banter salon in that it will be an open event with no official program. We’ll hang out and read poetry, our own or someone else’s, (dead or alive) sharing whatever comes to our minds after each poem is read. I’ve selected a few choice poets to start us off on the mic, and these poets will hold the floor for the first half of the event. After our poet laureates have had the stage we will enter total chaos mode. Anyone who wants to read poetry will be given the chance until it’s time for dinner. You are also welcome to attend if you don’t wish to recite anything. Your presence is enough.

There are no limits as to what you can read, and you will have the ability to keep your camera off if you have any privacy concerns. No Cultural Futurist Salons are ever recorded. This is a members-only event, and what happens at my salons stays at my salons. Poetry is, and has always been, about the inner flame. It should never be tamed by the petty tyrants of censorship and vibe-policing. In an era of forced simplicity, poets must create new worlds of complexity as we build universes of the mind and spirit, never forgetting about that which came before us. Get ready for some Dynamic Verse. You are about to enter the Poetry Portal.

Poetry Portal starts on August 24th at 4 PM EST. It will go on until 6 PM EST. You can attend by becoming a paid member of The Cultural Futurist, which will cause the Zoom link to be displayed for you under the cut. Membership also grants you entrance to all future salons and book clubs while giving you access to all of my archives.
