It's happening. We're doing another Nietzschean Book Club at the end of the month here at The Cultural Futurist. Last time, we dove into The Birth of Tragedy and everything surrounding it, exploring the contrast between the Dionysian and the Apollonian. We went over the thoughts of philosophers who were inspired by Nietzsche and the thoughts of philosophers who inspired him. This time, we'll be discussing Twilight of the Idols, one of Nietzsche's most important works. Twilight of the Idols challenged the dogmatic values of modernity while criticizing false notions of righteousness. If you don't have a physical copy, you can download the digital version here.
This is a book club for freethinkers who indulge in the weird and the wondrous, understand the energetic force of vitalism, and are unafraid to create their own value systems. This is not some random Satanist gathering (Satan was too dogmatic) and we are not interested in hearing about your religious homestead. Of course religious homsteaders are welcome to attend, but don’t get upset if we say something you consider to be blasphemy. For all I care, you could be quoting Jesus and farming crops right now. As long as you’re a freethinker who can stand alone through the test of time, you’re welcome to join us. No slave moralists allowed. Do not show me resentment for invoking a new transvaluation.
In today's binary political climate, Twilight of the Idols is more relevant than ever. Why should we have to choose the better of two false dogmas? It’s time for us to transcend the notions of political systems and ideological idols of our modern era. Let us create a new world by ruthlessly defining our own systems, launching ourselves toward the unknown, and embracing the chaos of the future. You don’t need to be a scholar of Nietzsche to attend. It’s fine if you haven’t read any of his books, as long as you’re ready to learn. There are 5 books discussed in this series, and their order is as follows:
The Birth of TragedyTwilight of the Idols [you are here]
Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Beyond Good and Evil
On the Genealogy of Morals
The Nietzschean Book Club will be held every other month here at The Cultural Futurist. This will give everyone the opportunity to digest these books rather than skim through them like dilettantes. This selection of books does not mean that other works of Nietzsche are off-limits. It simply means that Twilight of the Idols will be our main focus for this particular event. Get ready to philosophize with a hammer as we take down the false gods of both Nietzsche's era and our own.
