Monthly roundup for June, activate. It’s true. I missed a few of these roundups after my February and March editions, but I’m now back to my regular scheduled deprogramming. It has been quite a month over here. My recent Cultural Futurist Salon, Artificial Irreverence - All Tomorrows Civilizations was wild. After Cabaret of Secrets and Bohemian Banter I wasn’t sure how we were going to top things, yet everyone far surpassed my expectations. I was shocked at how many people attended to hear prolific bloggers like
and speak, while infamous authors like D. Harlan Wilson read from their Dadaist books and underground artists like zenKOAL performed sensual gothic poetry. This was only my fourth salon here on Substack, and none of this would have been possible without my community. I love you all. This month I was able to get past 2K subscribers for what amounts to just being myself and doing my thing. I published a parody piece that made a lot of people laugh and a lot of people angry, in addition to sharing a deeply personal account of being institutionalized in a prison for teenage girls and the friends that I made there. This was my most popular piece of writing on Substack to date. It wasn’t political, edgy, algorithmic, or current. Just heartfelt and upfront, which has led me to believe that Substack is a place for merit rather than “influencers.” I also interviewed media theorist Douglas Rushkoff, one of my biggest inspirations as a Cultural Futurist.
Last month I started a Nietzschean book club and made attendance in my book clubs a feature for all paid members, which was a great way for me to bring people on a similar wavelength together as we discussed The Birth of Tragedy. There will be another Nietzschean book club for members of The Cultural Futurist soon, so stay tuned for details. Anyway, it’s off to the races. Let’s rollout my picks for June.
Boom. If you want to attend my salons, participate in my book clubs, view my archives, and/or financially support my writing, now is the time to join The Cultural Futurist. You’ll also have access to my private group chat, and it’s no secret that group chats are becoming the dominant form of communication in our digital-to-physical era. I’ve decided to extend my Meaning of Life Discount and give 42% off forever to everyone who joins as a paid member for the rest of June. You can also join The Cultural Futurist as a founding member and book private consulting sessions with me, which I’ll be elaborating on soon. So, let’s make it happen! Get in on the ground floor of the aesthetic vanguard for a lifetime of truth, entertainment, and freedom of thought. We’re taking culture into our own hands.
These picks look great! I want to read every single one.
