A Celebration of Transgressive Ideas

At the end of 2023, I threw my first Cultural Futurist Salon on Substack. The results were even better than I expected. All it took was bringing my favorite people together to speak, read, and perform. I decided to make these salons a monthly occurrence and perk of being a paid member of The Cultural Futurist. Today, I’d like to announce the lineup for Cultural Futurist Salon II - Cabaret of Secrets and let everyone know about the meteor about to hit.

During the Weimar era of Berlin, decadence was the name of the game. Intellectuals emerging out of Weimar engaged in discussions about philosophy and the future amidst political and social realignment.  Flash forward to the 2000s of America, in which musical genres like Dark Cabaret were launched, echoing Weimar’s cabaret scene with burlesque shows and confrontational performance art. Meanwhile; goth, industrial, and neofolk bands addressed themes of futurism, history, political philosophy, and decadence reminiscent of the post-Weimar intellectual scene.

Today, producers and creators in the worlds of art, technology, and philosophy have sought to escape the conformity imposed by cancel culture while retaining the transgressive nature of their original visions. Yet those of us on the edge of society, challenging the modern narrative, often found ourselves alienated from both mainstream and dissident political movements. Now, we have reached a new stage of cultural evolution. The counter-elite, during its infancy, is ready to play.
